BACLOFEN💊 vs. BOTOX💉for spasticity

Mar 07, 2023

Hey there!

BACLOFEN💊 vs. BOTOX💉for spasticity

This is a question that I have been receiving a lot lately! ⭑Here are my thoughts⭑

Baclofen is usually the first course of action to reduce spasticity because it’s the least invasive being a pill that is taken.

The thing to know about baclofen is that it is systemic. Meaning, it can reduce spasticity over the whole body just as any other pill would like Advil or Ibuprofen🙌🏻

Botox however does NOT treat systemically. Botox is injected into one or several muscle groups in the same area, and it will reduce spasticity in those specific muscles💪🏻

In my experience, clients with MS who have tried Baclofen and noticed 0️⃣ improvement…didn’t notice a change with Botox either.

However, my clients who did notice SOME improvement with Baclofen, even a small amount, also noticed an improvement with Botox.

It’s EXTREMELY important to know that with both options, you will likely feel weaker afterwards😮‍💨 Sometimes that spasticity is actually what is holding us upright in good posture.

And without that spasticity we’re loosey-goosey and feel like noodles🍜 Therefore the dosing is really important👍🏻

Talk to your neurologist about which one would be the best fit for your spasticity👩🏼‍⚕️

I hope this helps you decide whether or not you would like to talk to your neurologist about a course of treatment for spasticity or not.

2. Join The MSing Link Community - The MSing Link is my online MS wellness program where you'll find video demonstrations and explanations of MS-specific exercises for strengthening, walking, balance, and flexibility. There are also videos for activity-specific movements such as getting into/out of bed or a car, standing up from the ground, sitting down with more control, stair climbing, etc. Since this program focuses on the whole person and not just exercise, we have monthly live guest speakers (ie: neurologists, podiatrists, nutritionists, etc.) and research updates.

3. Work with me privately - I offer wellness consults via Zoom. This is an opportunity for you to share your story with MS and your goals. I'm able to educate you on MS-specific exercises for walking, general mobility, transfers, and day-to-day activities (ie: getting into/out of a car, stair climbing, etc.). You can schedule a one-time call or you can schedule recurring calls - your choice. Oftentimes, people will schedule one of these calls prior to joining The MSing Link and/or one call every couple of months. Schedule here
